Sometimes, the sky breaks open before we get a glimpse of what comes next.
A sudden torrential thunderstorm can arrive with little warning, turning the world dark, loud, and uncertain. The rain comes down. The wind moves through the trees. For a while, it can feel as though the storm has taken over everything.
And then the clouds begin to break.
A rainbow appears.
Not because the storm never happened. Not because everything is suddenly perfect. The pavement is still wet. The puddles are still there. The evidence of the storm hasn’t disappeared.
But something beautiful has appeared in its aftermath.
Life can feel that way, too.
There are seasons when difficult things seem to arrive all at once. Plans fall apart. Circumstances change. We find ourselves standing in the middle of something we never expected and wondering when the clouds will finally move on.
In those moments, it can be difficult to imagine anything beyond the storm.
But the storm is not the whole sky.
Hope doesn’t always arrive as a dramatic answer or an instant solution. Sometimes it is simply a small change in the light. A reason to keep going. A moment of unexpected beauty. A reminder that what we are experiencing right now is not necessarily where we will remain.
We don’t have to pretend the storm wasn’t difficult. We don’t have to deny what happened or what was lost.
We simply have to remain open to the possibility that something beautiful may still be waiting beyond the clouds.
Even after the storm, there is hope.
Sometimes, hope begins with nothing more complicated than looking up.
