Hearts Need Love

by | Feb 19, 2026 | health, soul

I spend my days fixing hearts in the OR, but I’m constantly reminded that the many hearts don’t need surgery, they just need love.

Yes, we should take the traditional advice seriously: move more, eat real food, avoid tobacco, manage stress, and know our numbers (blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar). But there’s another side of heart health we talk about less often: the power of a caring, connected, loving heart.

Loneliness, chronic stress, and disconnection are hard on the cardiovascular system. Support, kindness, and genuine human connection do the opposite—they calm the nervous system, lower stress hormones, and create the conditions for a healthier heart. The relationships we nurture can be just as cardioprotective as the medications we prescribe.

My message is simple: Some hearts need surgery. All hearts need love, kindness, and someone who shows up.

Do three things today:

1. Make one heart‑healthy choice for your body.
2. Reach out to someone who might be feeling alone.
3. Lead with a generous heart at home, at work, and in your community.
Take care of your heart, and then give it away generously.

Hearts Need Love

Rain

We don't experience the same rain. Some have umbrellas, some have roofs, and some only have themselves. That's why we should be kinder, slower to judge, and quicker to understand. You'll never know how heavy someone's rain is until you've stood where they are.
